Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-07
Haani is curated matchmaking for Punjabi and Indian families in Canada. To introduce you well we ask about things that matter deeply to you and your family, so we want to be plain about what we collect, why, who sees it, and where it goes. Questions or requests: saini@haani.ca. That address also reaches the person responsible for privacy at Haani.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email and password. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and are never visible to us.
- Your profile and preferences: what you tell us in onboarding and in your interview, such as age, height, city, gender and who you would like to meet, and your preferences on diet, relocation, children, community and caste, faith, family expectations and life goals.
- Your interview: the conversation with our AI interviewer, stored as text, with the profile summaries drawn from it. When you speak instead of typing, your voice is sent to a speech provider to be turned into text; we do not keep the audio. In live voice mode, your voice is streamed to our AI provider during the conversation and is not recorded by us.
- Your family and friends: if you invite them, the name, relationship and optional email you give us, and the answers they give about you in their own interview.
- Photos you choose to add, and birth details (date and time) if you choose to add them for a kundli match.
- Verification: your email address and phone number when you verify them, and a seriousness assessment our AI makes from your profile to help keep out fake and joke sign-ups.
- Payments: what you bought, when, and how much. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Records we keep for trust and safety: when you agreed to our Terms and this policy (with the version and, for purchases, your IP address), and technical logs of errors and system performance.
- How you use Haani: a record of the steps you take, for example that you finished an interview topic, viewed an introduction or unlocked one, with the date. These records use an internal id and categories only; they never contain your name, your answers, your interview or your matches’ details.
Sensitive information
Faith, community, caste openness, family circumstances and views on marriage are sensitive. We collect them only because they matter to a good match, and only with your consent, which you give when you create your account and each time you choose to answer. You never have to answer a question you would rather not.
How we use it
- To understand you and suggest introductions that fit, including compatibility scores and the reasons behind them.
- To prepare your readiness report, your shareable profile, and coaching before an introduction.
- To verify accounts, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the service working.
- To process payments and send the emails you need (codes, confirmations, reports).
- To understand which parts of Haani help people and where they get stuck, so we can improve it.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who sees what
- Your matchmaker sees your profile, your interview, and your family’s answers, to make and explain introductions.
- Your family and friends never see your interview or your private answers.
- You see a summary, in your readiness report, of where your family’s view of you matches or differs from your own. It is a short summary, not their individual answers.
- People you are introduced to see your profile summary, your photo, and why you might be a good match. Your contact details are not shared unless you both agree to meet.
AI
An AI conducts your interview, writes your profile summaries, readiness report and coaching, and helps rank introductions. A matchmaker reviews introductions. The AI providers listed below process your information to do this work for us.
Connecting an AI assistant
You can connect an AI assistant (Claude by Anthropic, ChatGPT by OpenAI, or Gemini by Google) to your Haani account; see Connected apps. You choose what it may do, and it acts for you only after you confirm each step. When you ask it about your account, the information it looks up (for example your introductions or your profile) is sent to the company that runs that assistant, under your own agreement with them. Your family’s individual answers are never available to it. You can disconnect it at any time.
Your matchmaker may also use Claude to review client files and prepare introductions. When they do, the client information involved, including interviews and family input, is processed by Anthropic for Haani.

How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile, interview, photos and your family’s answers about you within 30 days. We keep payment and consent records for as long as the law requires. Usage records in our database are deleted after 400 days, or with your account if you close it sooner.
Your choices and rights
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
- Discard any family member’s interview at any time from Family & friends. It is then no longer used for matching.
- Withdraw your consent or close your account by writing to saini@haani.ca. Some features cannot work without the information they rely on.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle a concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
Information travels over encrypted connections. Access to member data is limited to the systems that need it and to your matchmaker, and the matchmaker area is protected. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Cookies
We use cookies and your browser’s storage to keep you signed in and to resume your conversation where you left off. We do not use advertising cookies.
Age
Haani is for adults 18 and over looking for a marriage partner.
Changes
When we change this policy we update the version above. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you before it applies.
